Nanshan Botanical Garden

Spread across more than a dozen hills and some 550 hectares in the Nanshan scenic area, Nanshan Botanical Garden is Chongqing’s largest green space and a favorite local escape from the city’s heat and density — sometimes nicknamed the “flower crown of the mountain city.” Several themed gardens sit within the grounds, including rose, plum, orchid, camellia, and bonsai gardens, along with a large exhibition greenhouse, together holding several thousand varieties of plants from China and abroad.

Something is usually in bloom regardless of season: cherry blossoms, crabapple, and peach flowers cluster through March to May, camellias run through winter, and a stand of centuries-old sweet osmanthus trees perfumes the park each autumn. The garden also hosts recurring seasonal events, including camellia and plum blossom festivals and a spring flower show, alongside general park amenities like walking trails and open lawns.

Entry costs 30 RMB (or 50 RMB including the greenhouse), and the grounds connect directly to the Yikeshu viewing platform, making it easy to combine a daytime garden walk with an evening spent taking in the skyline.
