Sitting in the Jiangbeizui central business district, right at the point where the Yangtze and Jialing rivers meet, the Chongqing Science and Technology Museum is a large, modern science center built as one of the city’s ten flagship cultural infrastructure projects. Opened in 2009, it covers close to 48,000 square meters across two connected buildings, with a stone-and-glass exterior that stands out against the surrounding high-rises.

Inside, six main themed halls cover everyday technology, disaster prevention, transportation, national defense, aerospace, and basic science, alongside dedicated children’s and industrial exhibits — around 400 exhibits in total, many of them hands-on. The museum also runs an IMAX-format dome cinema with a 20-meter screen, plus 4D and interactive theaters, all ticketed separately from the main exhibition halls, which are free to enter.

It’s a strong option for anyone traveling with kids, or simply after an air-conditioned few hours indoors, and its Jiangbeizui location puts it within easy reach of the Grand Theatre and one of the best viewing spots for the Saturday night drone show.
