Two Rivers Night Cruise

If Chongqing’s skyline is famous for how it looks from land, the Two Rivers Night Cruise flips that around — a boat tour along the Yangtze and Jialing rivers that takes in the city’s illuminated waterfront from the water itself. The route has genuine historical pedigree too: this stretch of river and its night views were celebrated as one of the “Twelve Scenic Views of Bayu” as far back as the Qing dynasty’s Qianlong era, long before neon and skyscrapers were part of the picture.

Boats depart from either Hongyadong Pier or Chaotianmen Pier, with several tiers to choose from — Classic, Deluxe (Jinbi), and Premium series, differing mainly in vessel style and price rather than the route itself. Across a roughly 45–60 minute journey covering 16–20km, cruises pass many of the city’s best-known landmarks lit up from the river: Hongyadong’s tiered facade, Qiansimen Bridge, Raffles City and The Crystal, Dongshuimen Bridge, Chaotianmen Square, and the dramatic confluence point where the greenish Jialing meets the sediment-rich Yangtze. Most boats run with onboard commentary pointing out the sights as they pass.

Departures run on a rolling schedule roughly between 19:30 and 22:00 nightly, so there’s rarely a long wait to board. It’s one of the more relaxed ways to take in Chongqing’s famous “night view” reputation — sit back rather than walk between viewpoints — and pairs naturally with an evening that also includes Hongyadong and Chaotianmen Square, given the shared departure points.
