Opened in 1987, the Yangtze River Cableway was originally built as everyday transport linking Yuzhong District to Nan’an District across the river, and it’s still in occasional use that way — but today it’s better known as a scenic ride in its own right, nicknamed the “first aerial corridor on the Yangtze River.” The crossing takes under four minutes each way in orange, panoramic-windowed cabins that carry around 50 passengers at a time.

The views take in the Yangtze River, Chaotianmen Port, and Chongqing’s dense high-rise skyline from an unusual, low-altitude angle that feels different from taller observation decks elsewhere in the city. It’s especially popular around sunset and after dark, when the riverside lights come on and the ride becomes a compact, low-effort way to see the city’s famous night scenery.
